“The Bayesian filter is so good at catching spam because it learns over time. This is not a database of spam signatures (a technology that is largely useless), but a database of spam that the Bayesian filter studies and adapts to. GFI maintains the spam profile database by working with a number of spam collection organizations that continually supply spam samples. The GFI MailEssentials Bayesian filter can learn from spam identified by the user, as well as by downloading profiles of the latest spam from the GFI site, ensuring that it recognizes the latest spam and spamming techniques. * Is sensitive/adapts to the company/userīayesian filter learns from outbound mail and new spam In short, Bayesian filtering has the following advantages: Bayesian filtering is based on the mathematical principle that most events are dependent and that the probability of an event occurring in the future can be inferred from the previous occurrences of that event – the same concept is used to identify new spam messages based on the content of past spam messages. Rather than just checking for keywords, GFI’s Bayesian filter takes the whole message into consideration. Bayesian filtering detects spam based on message content. GFI MailEssentials is among the very first products to implement this technology at server level in a reliable and effective manner. The GFI MailEssentials Bayesian filter is adaptive: it changes over time and learns spamming techniques, making it much harder to dodge.īayesian filtering technology increases spam detectionīayesian filters are widely acclaimed to be the best way to tackle spam because they use statistical intelligence to analyze the content of the mail. Current anti-spam techniques are largely static, meaning that it is fairly easy for spammers to evade them simply by tweaking their messages. It is inexcuseable for software this poorly functioning to be marketed and sold at the price they are requesting. We were saved by our endpoint antivirus software, mercifully, when an email spoofing our domain recently was sent to nearly every user in the company simultaneous attached with a crypto payload in a word doc. It is an absolute embarassment of a product that is humiliating to our department - we've switched to Mimecast which we hopefully plan to implement in the next few weeks. Where to begin? Extraordinarily limited anti-spam, anti-spoof and antivirus engines cause so much spam to waltz through on an hourly basis.

This is not the fault of their support, but instead limitations of the software itself. Support is fairly responsive, but I have not once had a serious issue resolved by them and isntead referred to their published knowledge base myself. Oh, that email address your manager asked you to whitelist still isn't being allowed through? Better make sure you hit 'apply' in both areas, including the more hidden one not readily apparent from the section you enter the email address. I suppose the management interface is generally intuitive, though something as simple as whitelisting an individual address or domain can be stupidly cumbersome.
